Open loop systems, such as standing column wells (SCW) and so-called “pump & dump” geothermal designs have been around for a while, but have never developed approved standards for installation the way closed systems have achieved under the auspices of IGSHPA (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association). ARB/Geowell is attempting to correct this perceived deficiency, having developed a certificated design course (Heat Spring Institute) that demystifies the engineering science behind open loop systems, and establishes a set of “best practices” for design, installation, measurement and performance.

With this background, ARB/Geowell is in a position to offer engineering firms unique support for their RFQ development and evaluation process, including specifications for critical site measurements that lead to an appropriate design and installation of the SCW geothermal field. We have successful work experience with school systems, commercial building owners and design engineers, as well as the federal government.
